Help Harvey

When five-year-old Harvey was diagnosed with leukemia in January 2023, he began receiving regular platelet transfusions. He and so many others fighting life-threatening illnesses need our help.

Child cancer patient in Texas in need of platelets

Pediatric patients in the U.S. use hundreds of thousands of blood components each year, with more than a quarter of those patients depending on platelet donations as they fight childhood cancers and other life-threatening diseases.

Harvey, a five-year-old boy from Texas, is one of those children. A natural-born musician, Harvey's enthusiasm for the drums and the guitar may only be rivaled by the joy he gets from a big bag of popcorn and playtime with his favorite monster trucks.

Since his leukemia diagnosis in January 2023, however, Harvey has relied on regular platelet infusions to help him recover from his chemotherapy treatments.

The Need for Platelets

Platelets give cancer patients and survivors of serious injuries the strength to keep fighting and are used every 15 seconds in the United States.

Such a high demand contributes to a frequently short supply. Fortunately, unlike whole blood donation, platelet donors can give every seven days, up to 24 times per year.
