The Circular of Information for the Use of Human Blood and Blood Components (“the Circular”) serves as an extension of the product label, providing indications for the use of blood and blood components, precautions, instructions for administration, and adverse effects of transfusion. It is recognized by the Food and Drug Administration as an acceptable extension of container labels. Like a package insert for prescription drugs, it is an important part of the labeling of a blood component. The Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, requires it to be available for distribution with blood and blood components intended for transfusion.
OBI provides medical director oversight as your transfusion service provider, we have a special relationship with you that extends beyond a simple supplier arrangement. This relationship ensures the availability of blood products for your location as well as access to best transfusion practices. Our relationship also helps with system collection challenges through engagement with donor recruitment and blood collections.
With every donation, our diligent laboratory staff performs dozen of tests to ensure blood products are safe and ready to be transfused to local patients. As a fully licensed and certified laboratory, we maintain the highest standards and lead the nation in applying cutting-edge technology to create the safest blood products possible.
The Reference Laboratory provides specialized testing on blood products to identify and supply rare blood products to those in need. Everyone has a specific set of antigens in their blood, some of which can be rare. If enough antigens are present, the patient will require a unit of blood from a donor who matches their unique profile. That's where we come in!
