Fasting Lipid Panel Testing | Our Blood Institute

The fasting lipid panel includes:

HDL (High Density Lipoproteins)

Responsible for the reverse transport of cholesterol from the peripheral cells to the liver.

LDL (Low Density Lipoproteins)

Plays a key role in causing and influencing the progression of coronary artery disease.

Triglycerides

Used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with diabetes, mellitus, nephrosis, liver obstruction, lipid metabolism diseases and various metabolic disorders.

Cholesterol

Screening for coronary artery disease risk and in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders involving elevated cholesterol as well as lipid and lipoprotein metabolic disorders.

Pre- and Post-Test Info

Donors should fast for 8 hours prior to testing. When not fasting, only the results for the total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol are valid. Donors that still have a certificate for a heart check will receive fasting lipid panel testing in its place.

Results can be accessed using our secure Donor Portal a few days after testing. In addition, all those tested will receive mailed reports about two weeks after testing. It is the individual's responsibility to share this information with a physician(s) who will track results and advise further action as appropriate.

Blood donation is not required for purchased tests.

Please contact the center where you plan to get your test for current fees. Payment is due at the time of testing by cash or check payable to "Oklahoma Blood Institute."
