Blood Types: What Do They Mean?

Facts About B+ Blood

B positive donors: we're positively thrilled each time you donate platelets! That's because your platelets support a wide range of patients, which is quite the superhero trait in our book.

Our Recommendation for B+ Donors

Our B positive donors are pretty special. Not only can their blood type be transfused to AB positive patients, as well as others who are type B positive, but their platelets can help people with B positive and O positive blood types.

That's a lot of people — nearly half of all Americans — which is why we strongly recommend that our B positive donors give platelets! Want to learn more about the importance of platelet donation? The OBI 'Why'

After experiencing multiple losses to cancer right here at Our Blood Institute, OBI Donor Services Director Lindsay Chavis decided it was time to donate platelets.

"We had a few staff members here in Little Rock pass away from cancer that received several platelet transfusions while going through chemotherapy. I think it’s so important to share that and keep that reminder, to keep that 'why.'"

If you've been affected by cancer, consider donating platelets like Lindsay. Your donation could make all the difference.
