Declan de Gruy, baby with Diamond-Blackfan anemia

One-year-old Declan de Gruy was born with Diamond-Blackfan anemia, a rare blood disorder in which the body doesn't produce red blood cells, causing little Declan to need a blood transfusion every three weeks. He has O negative blood, showing the great importance and need for type O blood. Our Blood Institute, in partnership with Veterans of Foreign Wars post 9095 in Little Rock, hosted a blood drive for Declan on Nov. 5, 2023, hoping to gain awareness for blood donations and educate the public on why type O blood is always in need.
